IOC Praises London Bid to Host 2012 Olympics

London's bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games received praise from the International Olympic Committee as it wrapped up its four-day visit to the British capital on Saturday.

Nawal El Moutawakel of Morocco, the chairman of the International Olympic Committee's evaluation commission, said her group had been impressed by the city's passion for sport. She also congratulated London organizers for the quality of their plans and presentations.

The members of the evaluation committee heard presentations on the key criteria all bidding cities must meet, as well as inspecting the planned Olympic zone and key venues.

London was the second stop for the evaluation commission, after Madrid. They travel to New York on Sunday, before assessing Paris and Moscow. The commission will publish its report at least one month before IOC members name the host city at a meeting in Singapore on July 6.
