Veteran Pakistani cricket commentator and newspaper columnist Omar Kureishi has died in the port city of Karachi at age 80.
The Associated Press of Pakistan reported that Kureishi died in a hospital where he was admitted last week after an asthma attack. He had been on a life support system since then.
A hospital statement said his wife and son were with him when he died.
Kureishi was the author of several cricket books and a member of the International Cricket Council panel which selects the world's best test and one-day international players for annual awards.
Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Shaharyar Khan expressed deep sorrow over his death, saying Kureishi had achieved the rare status of becoming a "legend" in the sport during his lifetime. Khan added that Kureishi will be mourned by cricket lovers all over the world.
