Five Arrested in Mexican Women Killings

Mexican authorities are reported to have arrested five men suspected of murdering women in the border city of Ciudad Juarez.

Reuters news agency reports that Mexican police say the five were arrested in the past three weeks after a year-long analysis of police files on a number of women killed dating as far back as 1993.

More than 340 women have been murdered in a string of killings near the U.S. border since that year. Many of the victims were young women who were sexually assaulted and strangled before their bodies were dumped in the desert.

Ciudad Juarez - home to giant multinational manufacturing plants - is a Mexican city just south of El Paso in the southwestern U.S. state of Texas.
