New York City police shuts down portion of Third Avenue in Manhattan as they investigate explosion in front of building which houses British Consulate, Thursday |
New York City police say the early Thursday morning blasts were caused by toy grenades filled with gunpowder. Officers estimate that one was the size of a pineapple, and the other the size of a lemon.
Police say the devices were placed in a cement flower box outside the building's front door.
The explosions reportedly shattered at least one window on the building's first floor and the windows of a nearby parked car.
The blasts came shortly after voting opened in Britain's general election.
