Rujano Wins Giro's 19th Stage but Savoldelli Still Leads

update

Venezuelan cyclist José Rujano Guillen has won the penultimate stage of this year's Tour of Italy, but overall leader Paolo Savoldelli is only one stage away from his second title.

Rujano finished the 190-km mountainous stage in 5:49:30 hours. The stage ended nearly two kilometers above sea level in the Alpine ski resort of Sestriere.

Two-time Tour champion Gilberto Simoni of Italy was second, 26 seconds back while Danilo Di Luca of Italy was third. Savoldelli, the 2002 champion, finished nearly 2:00 behind Rujano but retained the overall leader's pink jersey.

Savoldelli leads Simoni by 28 seconds in the overall standings. Rujuano is third overall.

Sunday's final stage covers 119 km from Albese con Cassano to Milan. Savoldelli is likely to clinch the win in the final stage, which traditionally is a parade of the race winner.
