Interim Bolivian President Names Cabinet

update

Eduardo Rodriguez

Bolivia's interim President Eduardo Rodriguez has named a transition cabinet, and renewed his pledge to hold new presidential elections by the end of the year.

The cabinet was sworn in late Tuesday at the government palace. Mr. Rodriguez, who previously headed Bolivia's Supreme Court, took office Thursday. His predecessor, Carlos Mesa, resigned following weeks of violent protests.

Earlier Tuesday, protesters marched on Congress calling for new legislative elections along with the presidential election.

Farmers, miners and labor groups have been demanding the nationalization of the natural gas and oil industry and redistribution of its profits to the country's poor.
