The U.S. military says it killed 15 to 20 suspected Taleban fighters in an airstrike after they attacked coalition forces in southern Afghanistan.
The military says no coalition forces were wounded in the Sunday incident in Hekmand province. It says U.S. warplanes and attack helicopters were called in after the U.S.-led troops came under small arms and rocked fire.
Also Sunday, Taleban militants said they executed a district police chief and seven others who were abducted in southern Afghanistan. They say the chief was killed on orders from the group's religious leaders, while the other seven were tried and executed for supporting the U.S.-backed Kabul government.
Taleban militants also fired at least three rockets into Kandahar early Sunday, but no one was injured.
