British Airways hopes to resume a limited number of flights from London's Heathrow Airport later Friday evening after ground crews who walked off the job Thursday, returned to work.
The strike forced cancellation of all of the airline's flights at Heathrow, its major London hub, and stranded thousands of passengers. Airline officials said limited service will resume after 19:00 UT, but gave no information on when it will return to normal.
The ground crews walked off the job in sympathy with workers dismissed by a catering firm that services British Airways planes.
Other airlines such as Quantas, Finnair and Sri Lankan Airways that use the same British Airways ground staff also canceled flights.
The walkout stranded more than 70,000 passengers at Heathrow.
