World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz is in Islamabad, where he met with President Pervez Musharraf and praised Pakistan's economic and banking sector reforms.
General Musharraf thanked the World Bank for its support to Pakistan, which includes poverty alleviation, water, power, energy and infrastructure projects. Pakistan is the World Bank's fifth-largest borrower.
Earlier, Mr. Wolfowitz met with Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, a former Citibank executive who is credited with turning around Pakistan's economy over the past few years. The government has said that Pakistan's economy grew 8.4 percent in the fiscal year that ended in June.
Mr. Wolfowitz also met with people from poor rural areas to learn how World Bank-funded projects have helped them.
The World Bank president is scheduled to leave on Wednesday for India.
