The women's semifinals later Friday at the U.S. Open tennis tournament in New York will have top seed Maria Sharapova of Russia taking on Kim Clijsters of Belgium.
The two players are meeting for the third time on the WTA Tour, and Sharapova is looking for her first win against the Belgian. Clijsters and Sharapova met in the finals of the Nasdaq 100 tournament in April, with Clijsters winning in straight sets 6-3, 7-5.
In the first semifinal Friday, former French Open champion Mary Pierce takes on Russian Elena Dementieva. Pierce is looking for her first win against the Russian. The winners Friday meet Saturday in the U.S. Open final.
The men's semifinals are Saturday with world number one Roger Federer taking on former champion Lleyton Hewitt of Australia and American Andre Agassi facing countryman Robby Ginepri.
