Cameroon Surprised at France Flight Ban

update

Cameroon's government has expressed surprise at France's decision to ban flights by state-run Cameroon Airlines over safety concerns.

Communications Minister Moukoko Mbonjo said the decision comes as officials from both countries are currently studying the airline's operations in France.

The head of Cameroon's civil aviation authority, Ignatius Sama Juma, said he expects the dispute to be resolved quickly.

French officials announced the ban Friday, saying Cameroon Airlines had failed to respect safety standards on handling dangerous materials, navigation documents and tire maintenance.

Five other airlines from Africa, the Caribbean and Asia have been banned this year in France for safety reasons.
