China, Romania, and Russia have announced new bird flu outbreaks while the United Nations warns the virus could spread to Africa and the Middle East.
Scientists fear the virus could mutate into a strain easily spread by humans, creating a worldwide pandemic.
Beijing's Xinhua news agency reported Wednesday that Chinese authorities report 2,600 dead birds on a farm in Inner Mongolia.
Authorities say it is the H5N1 strain, which has killed 60 people in Asia.
New cases have also found in dead birds in Russia's Tula region, south of Moscow. Siberia saw an outbreak earlier this year.
And Romanian officials say they found a new case of bird flu, days after an earlier case was discovered.
U.N. experts warned Wednesday that migrating birds could spread the flu to the Middle East and Africa. Kenya has already been put on alert.
