Burkina Faso's President Blaise Compaore says he is leading in Sunday's presidential election, as vote counting continues.
Mr. Compaore made the remark to hundreds of his supporters just hours after the polls closed.
The president, who is facing 11 opposition candidates, is expected to win the election.
Final results are not expected for several days.
President Compaore is seeking a third term in office, a move criticized by some opposition candidates who argue he is breaking a two-term constitutional limit. But a court cleared the president to run in the poll.
Mr. Compaore seized power in a military coup 18 years ago. He was elected unopposed in 1991 and re-elected in a landslide in 1998.
