A Nigerian group campaigning for an independent state in the southeast of the country has called for two days of strikes next month.
The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra said the strikes are to press for the release of their leader, who is standing trial for treason.
It is calling for businesses, schools and offices in southeastern towns to shut down December 5-6.
A group spokesman said the strike is only a warning signal. He said the group will call an indefinite protest if their leader, Ralph Uwazurike, is not freed on his next court date on December sixth.
The group is calling for a peaceful secession of Nigeria's southeastern region. Separatists in the region declared independence in 1967, sparking a three-year civil war.
