Health officials in Jakarta say local tests show a 39-year old Indonesian man has died from bird flu.
If confirmed by the World Health Organization, it would bring to 10 the number of people in Indonesia who have died from the H5N1 strain of the virus.
Thursday, China's state media reported a sixth person in the country has been diagnosed with bird flu.
The Health Ministry identified the latest victim as a 35-year-old man from Suichuan County in the eastern province of Jiangxi. The ministry gave no further details.
Earlier, China's Agriculture Ministry reported an outbreak in a flock of ducks, also in Jiangxi.
The H5N1 strain of bird flu has killed more than 70 people in East Asia since 2003.
