Cricket: Australia Defeats S. Africa in Tri-Series Match

Australia's cricket team has defeated South Africa by 80 runs in their one-day tri-series match in Melbourne.

Speedster Brett Lee added to his growing reputation as a lethal limited-overs bowler as he snared 4-30, including three wickets in one over. Teammates Michael Hussey and Andrew Symonds were the star batsmen Friday, tallying 60 runs off their last five overs to rocket their team to an impressive 281-7.

Symonds stroked 65 from 60 balls and Hussey scored 62 from 44 balls.

The South Africans had been held to 201-9 in their 50 overs. Top scorer was opener Johan Botha with 46 runs.

The Australians had already qualified for the best-of-three finals, but South Africa - if it loses again to Australia on Sunday - could then be overhauled for the remaining berth by Sri Lanka.
