John Legend is a nominee for best new artist, and for song of the year for his ballad "Ordinary People."
The Grammys are presented by the Recording Academy, made up of 16,000 people in the music industry. The awards are given out in 108 categories, from classical to country. The event at Staples Center in Los Angeles is seen by viewers around the world on television. Among the scheduled performers is Paul McCartney, a 13-time Grammy winner and multiple nominee again this year.
