Blast on Indian Navy Ship Kills 3 Sailors, Injures 19

update

An accidental explosion on board an Indian navy ship has killed three sailors and wounded 19 others, some of them seriously.

Officials say the incident happened Wednesday, while the ship INS Magar was dumping expired missiles into the Bay of Bengal, around 70 kilometers off India's eastern coast.

Some of the discarded ammunition exploded during the operation, starting a fire that burned several sailors.

The injured were airlifted to a naval hospital in the port city of Visakhapatnam.

The INS Magar is one of India's largest navy ships, and is equipped with Russian-made missiles.
