French authorities have set up a three-kilometer zone around a turkey farm in the southeast of the country because the deadly strain of the bird flu virus may have infected poultry there.
The French agriculture ministry says the virus is suspected in 11,000 turkeys because many have died. It says surviving poultry will be slaughtered.
The farm is in the Ain region, where France confirmed its first two cases of the H5N1 strain in wild ducks.
The Greek agriculture ministry reports seven more cases of H5N1 in wild birds, bringing its total to 16.
German officials report 110 cases.
Slovak officials say two dead wild birds appear to have the virus.
The strain has also been confirmed in Hungary, Slovenia, Italy and Austria.
Bird flu has killed 92 people worldwide since 2003, mostly in Asia.
