Zimbabwean opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai is calling for peaceful anti-government protests.
Speaking to more than 14,000 party members in Harare Saturday, the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) leader called for collective action to oppose President Robert Mugabe.
Tsvangirai was speaking at a party congress aimed at reinvigorating the M.D.C. after a bitter party split weakened opposition to President Mugabe.
A rival faction emerged after Tsvangirai called for a boycott of last November's senate elections. That faction elected former student activist Arthur Mutambara as its leader last month.
Tsvangirai, the party's founder, is expected to be re-elected president of the main faction at the three-day conference that began Friday.
