Australia's women swimmers have broken the world record in the 4x100-meter medley relay event at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia.
The Australian quartet, Sophie Edington, Leisel Jones, Jessicah Schipper and Lisbeth Lenton, completed Tuesday's race in 3:56.30 to break the old mark (3:57.32) by more than a second.
England won the silver medal more than eight seconds back (4:04.61), while the bronze went to Canada (4:05.95).
The old record also was held by Australia, which set the mark at the 2004 Athens Olympics.
