Iran to Test-Fire Torpedo, More Missiles

Iran says it will test-fire a powerful torpedo and more missiles as part of a week of military exercises.

A navy rear admiral told state television the torpedo will be test-fired Monday and other missiles will be tested later in the week.

Iran said Sunday it had successfully test-fired a high speed underwater missile. Friday, Iran said it test-fired a missile that can evade radar and has multiple warheads.

The announcements come as Iran is under pressure from the West over its alleged efforts to develop nuclear weapons.

Thousands of Iranian troops are conducting war games in Iran's southern waters for what officials in Tehran say is preparation to ward off threats.

Iran's envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency called Sunday for the international community to negotiate with Tehran rather than issue U.N. Security Council statements on its nuclear program.

Last week, the 15-member council unanimously approved a statement calling on Iran to suspend uranium enrichment activity within 30 days.
