Authorities in Indian Kashmir say dozens of people are feared dead after a bus skidded off a mountain road and plunged into a fast flowing river.
The accident happened Friday near a remote village, Sashoo, about 200 kilometers northeast of Jammu, the winter capital of Indian Kashmir.
It was not clear how many people were on the bus. One senior official, Kashmir's chief secretary Vijay Bakaya, told Reuters news service that 38 people were initially booked on the bus, which picked up more passengers later.
The bus fell more than 100 meters into icy waters of the Chenab River. Police say rescuers are facing difficulty in locating bodies because of rapids and harsh terrain. So far, only two bodies have been recovered.
