A woman from Norway has claimed a record as the first in the world to reach the north and south poles and climb the seven summits, the highest mountains on each of the world's continents.
Team members for Cecilie Skog announced Tuesday she had become the first woman to achieve the record after she reached the North Pole on skis.
The 31-year-old set out March 6 to ski to the Pole, encountering temperatures of at least 40 degrees below zero Celsius.
Skog had previously climbed the highest mountain peaks in South America, North America, Europe, Africa, Asia, the Antarctic and Oceania. The Associated Press says she reached the South Pole in December.
