NHL: Senators Hold 2-1 Lead Over Lightning


In the National Hockey League playoffs, the Ottawa Senators' Martin Havlat scored two goals Tuesday night in an 8-4 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Senators hold a 2-1 game lead over the defending Stanley Cup champions in their best-of-seven series.

In other NHL playoff action on Tuesday, the Calgary Flames downed the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, 5-2, for a 2-1 lead in their series. Darren McCarty and Robyn Regehr scored 34 seconds apart in the third period to help Calgary pull away.

In California, the San Jose Sharks dominated the Nashville Predators, 4-1. San Jose was down 1-0 early in the first period, but reeled off four unanswered goals, two of them by Patrick Marleau. The Sharks have a 2-1 lead over Nashville in that series.

The Edmonton Oilers needed two overtime periods to get past the Detroit Red Wings, 4-3. Jarret Stoll scored the game-winning goal for Edmonton, which also has a 2-1 playoff lead.
