Five-Year-Old Runs Into Record Books

A five-year-old child in India has stunned onlookers by running 65 kilometers in seven hours.

Watched over by his trainers and police, Budhia Singh ran Tuesday from the holy town of Puri to Bhubanewar in the eastern state of Orissa.

The run earned Singh a place in Indian record books as the youngest person to cover such a long distance.

Singh had hoped to run 70 kilometers, but collapsed about five kilometers short of his goal. He is listed in stable condition at a local hospital.

The youth reportedly took up running when he once strayed onto a sports complex. A coach told him to run laps as punishment, and was astonished to find the child still running five hours later.

Some information for this report was provided by AFP.
