Bonds Ties Babe Ruth's Home Run Record in California Baseball Game

update

In Major League Baseball, San Francisco Giants slugger Barry Bonds has tied Hall of Famer Babe Ruth's home run record by hitting his 714th career home run in Oakland, California.

Bonds led off the second inning with a blast to right field off Oakland pitcher Bard Halsey. The 41-year-old slugger tipped his cap to the crowd and took a bow after touching home plate.

Bonds received a long standing ovation and the game was delayed for about 90 seconds.

The Giants' outfielder has been playing under a cloud because of his association with a wide-ranging steroid investigation involving a San Francisco-area laboratory. He has denied using steroids and has never tested positive for the performance-enhancing drugs.

Former Atlanta Braves great Henry Aaron holds the all-time home run record with 755 career homers.
