Golf: Nicklaus, Player Named Captains of President's Cup Teams

update

U.S. golf veteran Jack Nicklaus and South Africa's Gary Player have been named captains of the Presidents Cup teams for the third straight time.

PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem announced the appointments Wednesday. Finchem said players on both teams at last year's competition near Washington had lobbied for Nicklaus and Player to return as captains. Next year's competition will mark the fourth time for Nicklaus as captain of the U.S. team. The only other captain to serve in three straight matches was Australian Peter Thomson from 1996 to 2000.

Next year's Presidents Cup will be played September 27 to 30th at Royal Montreal in Canada, the oldest golf club in North America. Last year, the United States defeated the International team, 18.5 to 15.5 to take the Cup.
