Tennis: Henin-Hardenne, Clijsters Advance to 4th Round of French Open

Defending champion Justine Henin-Hardenne and compatriot Kim Clijsters of Belgium have advanced to the fourth round of the French Open tennis tournament in Paris.

Henin-Hardenne won the final nine games of her match and beat Tathiana Garbin of Italy, 6-4, 6-0. In the next round, the Belgian player takes on 2004 champion Anastasia Myskina of Russia, a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Ana Ivanovic of Serbia and Montenegro.

Meanwhile, second-seed Kim Clijsters scored a straight-sets win over Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain (6-3, 6-4). Clijsters plays 15th-seeded Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova next. Hantuchova ousted Nathalie Dechy of France in three sets (6-3, 3-6, 10-8).

Also Saturday, Anna-Lena Groenefeld of Germany scored a straight-sets win over Maria Kirilenko of Russia (6-2, 7-6). Groenefeld plays Argentina's Gisela Dulko next. Dulko defeated American Shenay Perry (6-1, 6-1).

Former world number one Martina Hingis of Switzerland scored a 6-1, 6-1 win over Ivana Lisjak of Croatia. Hingis plays Israel's Shahar Peer in the round of 16. Peer scored a 6-4, 7-5 win over 2004 runner-up Elena Dementieva of Russia.

In men's play, Julien Benneteau of France ousted 11th-seed Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic (5-7, 7-5, 7-6, 6-3). In the next round, Benneteau faces Alberto Martin of Spain, a five-set winner over Olivier Rochus of Belgium (7-5, 4-6, 6-7, 6-1, 6-4).

Meanwhile, 14th-seed Lleyton Hewitt of Australia advanced with a 7-6, 6-2, 6-2 win over Dominik Hrbaty of Slovakia.
