Argentina, the Netherlands Advance to World Cup Second Round

Argentina and the Netherlands have qualified for the second round of the World Cup football tournament in Germany after both posted wins in Group C.

With Diego Maradona and a sell-out crowd watching in Gelsenkirchen, Argentina crushed Serbia and Montenegro, 6-0. Maxi Rodriguez led the Argentines with two goals - in the sixth and 41st minutes.

Esteban Cambiasso (31st minute) Hernan Crespo (78th minute) Carlos Tevez (84th minute) and Lionel Messi (88th minute) also scored for the South Americans.

At Stuttgart's Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadium, the Netherlands defeated Ivory Coast, 2-1. Ruud van Nistelrooy and Robin van Persie scored a goal each to lead the Dutch. Bakary Kone scored for Ivory Coast.

The result gave Argentina and the Netherlands six points from two matches with their final Group C match against each other June 21. Serbia and Montenegro has no points, and plays Ivory Coast next with neither team able to advance.

In Group D, Angola and Mexico played to a scoreless draw in Hanover. Mexico now has four points from two matches. Mexico plays Portugal in its final Group match June 21st. Angola faces Iran in its last match.

In action Saturday, Portugal faces Iran in Frankfurt, the United States takes on Italy in Kaiserslautern and the Czech Republic plays Ghana in Cologne. So far Germany, Ecuador, the Netherlands and Argentina have qualified for the second round.
