Heavy rains have caused flooding in the city of Houston, in Texas, blocking roads and forcing some schools and businesses to close for the day.
Texas Governor Rick Perry ordered National Guard trucks and crew, helicopters and swift water rescue teams to Houston in response to the 27 centimeters of rain that fell.
Some residents were rescued from stranded vehicles. Flooding was also reported in southwestern Louisiana.
