Iraqi Intelligence Officer Killed in Roadside Bomb Attack

Iraqi police say a roadside bomb has killed a local intelligence chief and his two guards in the northern city of Kirkuk.

Local authorities say the blast occurred early Saturday.

Separately, the U.S. military says an American soldier was killed Saturday in a bomb attack in central Baghdad. The military also reported the death of a soldier in a roadside bomb attack Friday.

The Iraqi government had imposed a curfew in Baghdad to help security forces control surging violence in the capital.

People and cars were ordered off the streets Friday after clashes broke out between insurgents, Shi'ite militia and U.S. and Iraqi security forces near the heavily-fortified Green Zone in Baghdad. Several people were reported killed. Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's office said the curfew was lifted two hours after it began.

Some information for this report was provided by AFP, AP and Reuters.
