Tennis: Hingis Reaches Finals in Montreal

Two-time champion and former world number one Martina Hingis has reached the finals of the Rogers Cup women's hard-court tennis tournament in Montreal, Canada.

Seventh seed Hingis advanced when her opponent, unseeded 19-year-old Anna Chakvetadze of Russia, withdrew Saturday with a right arm injury, down 3-6, 1-3.

Hingis will rejoin the top 10 for the first time since 2002 when the new rankings are issued Monday.

The Swiss player takes on the winner of the second semifinal between 13th seed Ana Ivanovic of Serbia and Montenegro, and ninth seed Dinara Safina of Russia.

Rain during their match Saturday with Ivanovic leading 6-1, 3-4 has postponed the end of the match until Sunday at 1500 UTC.

The hard-court tournament is one of several events players are using to prepare for the U.S. Open, the last major tournament of the year, which starts August 28 in New York.
