Bush Says He Talked with Chinese President About Getting N. Korea Back in Talks

update

President Bush says he has talked with Chinese President Hu Jintao about getting North Korea back to the six-party talks on Pyongyang's nuclear program.

Mr. Bush told reporters at the White House that he spoke to the Chinese leader earlier Monday.

He says they discussed the need to continue to work together to send a clear message to North Korean leader Kim Jong Il that there is a better choice than developing nuclear weapons.

North Korea has refused to return to the six-party talks until the United States lifts the financial sanctions it imposed against North Korea because of alleged counterfeiting and other illegal activities.

The United States, Russia, China, Japan and South Korea have been part of the talks with North Korea in an effort to achieve a Korean peninsula free of nuclear weapons.
