U.S. weather forecasters say Tropical Storm Debby has gained strength over the Atlantic Ocean, but poses no immediate threat to land.
Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center say the storm at midday Wednesday was located in the middle of the ocean, about 800 kilometers west of the Cape Verde islands. They say it had maximum sustained winds of about 75 kilometers an hour.
But they predict the storm will stay out at sea and not reach the land.
Debby is the fourth named storm of this year's Atlantic hurricane season.
