Explosion at Kazakh Coal Mine Kills 32

update

Kazakh authorities say a methane explosion in a coal mine in central Kazakhstan has killed 32 miners and injured at least two others. More than 300 miners managed to scramble to safety.

Rescuers are looking for at least eight miners who are still missing.

Kazakh officials say the blast occurred about 500 meters below ground at the Lenin mine in the Karaganda region early Wednesday.

The mine is owned by steelmaker Mittal - the world's largest steel producer. Mittal's Indian-born billionaire owner Lakshmi Mittal bought the mine complex in 1995.
