Iran Fires 3 New Missiles in Military Exercises

update

Iran says it has test fired three new types of missiles during a second day of military exercises in the Persian Gulf.

Iran state television showed footage Friday of the elite Revolutionary Guard firing what officials named Noor, Kowsar and Nasr missiles from mobile launching pads on the shore and from warships.

Iranian officials say the missiles are capable of hitting targets anywhere in the Gulf region, the Strait of Hormuz and the Sea of Oman.

Iran said Thursday it had test-fired numerous missiles in the first hours of a 10-day military exercise.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Tehran's action is an effort to demonstrate its strength and tell the world it will not be stopped from getting a nuclear weapon.

Rice says the Iranians are a threat, and that is why the international community must be strong in resisting Tehran's ambitions.

She also warned that Iran would "pay a price" if it were to launch an actual missile attack.

Some information for this report was provided by AFP, AP and Reuters.
