Tennis: Blake Upsets Davydenko at Masters Cup Tournament

Eighth-seeded James Blake of the United States and number-two Rafael Nadal of Spain have won their Gold Group matches at the season-ending Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai.

Blake rallied from a first-set loss and a service breakdown to beat third-seeded Nikolay Davydenko 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 on Wednesday. The American improved to a 4-0 career mark against Davydenko and leads the Gold Group with a 2-0 record at the Masters Cup. Davydenko's record falls to 1-1.

In the late match, Rafael Nadal defeated sixth-seeded fellow-Spaniard Tommy Robredo, 7-6, 6-2. Nadal improves his group record to 1-1, while Robredo drops to 0-2.

On Thursday, round-robin play in the Red Group concludes as top-seeded Roger Federer of Switzerland, who is 2-0, meets 1-1 fourth-ranked Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia. Fifth-seeded American Andy Roddick puts his 1-1 record up against winless (0-2) defending champion and seventh-ranked David Nalbandian of Argentina.

The lucrative season-ending event features the top eight players in the world rankings, broken down into two groups of four players each. The top two players from each group advance to Saturday's semifinals, with the winners meeting in the championship match on Sunday.
