Suspected Taleban Militants Capture Town in Western Afghanistan

Local officials in western Afghanistan say suspected Taleban fighters have captured a district in the Farah province.

The officials say Taleban militants overran the Bakwa district Monday. A senior administrator in the neighboring Dilaram district confirmed the capture to VOA's Afghan service.

The governor of Farah province, Mayuddin Baloch, tells VOA that he has lost communication with the local authorities in Bakwa district, but he denied the district was overtaken.

Taleban fighters captured the Musa Qala district in Afghanistan southern Helmand province more than two weeks ago.
