Guatemalan Police Arrested in Murder of Salvadoran Legislators

Four Guatemalan police officers have been arrested in connection with the killing of three Salvadoran members of the Central American Parliament and their driver.

The officers are accused of shooting the victims and setting them on fire. The charred remains were found Monday outside Guatemala City, where the parliament is based.

The legislators were members of El Salvador's ruling party and include Eduardo D'Aubuisson, the son of late right-wing leader Roberto D'Aubuisson.

The elder D'Aubuisson was allegedly involved in forming death squads during El Salvador's civil war. The two other legislators were William Pichinte and Jose Ramon Gonzalez.

El Salvador's President Tony Saca has condemned the killings and charged that they were premeditated.

Some information for this report was provided by AFP and AP.
