Australia Warns of Possible Bomb Attack in Bangkok

update

The Australian Embassy in Thailand is warning its citizens to be on alert Friday for possible bomb attacks in crowded places in Bangkok.

The warning on the "Travel Advice" section of the embassy Web site advises Australians to "exercise a high degree of caution because of the high threat of terrorist attack."

The embassy says "Reports indicate possible bombing attacks Friday at crowded places such as department stores, and sky-train and subway stations in Bangkok."

A series of explosions in Bangkok on New Year's Eve killed three people and wounded 30, including six foreigners. It is not clear who was responsible for the bombings.

The Australian warning Friday also advises against traveling to southern Thailand where violence has left more than 1,800 people dead in the past three years.
