AC Milan Defeats Manchester United, Reaches Champions League Final

The Italian football club AC Milan has reached its 11th European Cup final by beating Manchester United of England, 3-0, in the second-leg of the Champions League semifinals. The result puts Milan in the final with a 5-3 aggregate.

The Brazil playmaker Kaka, who scored both goals in the 3-2 loss last week at Old Trafford, gave Milan the lead in the 11th minute Wednesday. Clarence Seedorf made the score 2-0 in the 30th minute before Alberto Gilardino netted the final goal in the 78th minute.

Milan has won the European Cup six times and will be playing in the final for the third time in the last five years. Five-time European champion Liverpool of England advanced Tuesday, beating Chelsea, 4-1, on penalties after the teams tied at 1-1 on aggregate.

The Champions League final on May 23 in Athens, Greece will be a rematch of the 2005 final, when Liverpool overturned a 3-0 halftime deficit and won the title 3-2 on penalties.
