Kurt-Asle Arvesen Wins 8th Stage of Tour of Italy


Norwegian cyclist Kurt-Asle Arvesen has come from behind in the final 500 meters to pass world champion Paolo Bettini of Italy and win the eighth stage of the Tour of Italy in a sprint finish.

Arvesen completed Sunday's 200-kilometer ride, from Barberino di Mugello to Fiorano Modenese, in 4:44:59 to win a stage in the Italian race for the second time in his career.

Bettini and Assan Bazayev of Kazakhstan who finished third, were both credited with the same time as Arvesen.

Italian rider Marco Pinotti finished 23rd on Sunday but retained the overall leader's pink jersey. He holds a 28-second lead over second-placed countryman Andrea Noe in the overall standings, while Serguei Yakovlev of Kazakhstan is third, 54 seconds behind.
