Palestinian gunmen have crossed into Israel from Gaza and clashed with Israeli soldiers.
Palestinian militants and the Israeli army say the incursion took place near the Kissufim crossing Saturday.
The Islamic Jihad group said it carried out the attack with the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, an armed group linked to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah Party.
The Israeli army says four or five militants approached the border crossing in a jeep marked with the letters "TV."
One militant was killed during at least two hours of fighting after they crossed into Israel.
It was the first major cross-border incursion by Palestinian militants since last year, when they killed two Israeli soldiers and abducted a third.
Israel has been carrying out raids against suspected Palestinian militants in Gaza in response to heavy rocket fire from the territory into southern Israel.
Since mid-May, Palestinian rocket attacks have killed two Israelis. Israel's air strikes and limited incursions in Gaza have killed more than 50 Palestinians, most of them militants.
