The United States posted a 2-1 upset over Brazil Friday in the Under-20 World Cup football tournament in Ottawa, Canada.
Jozy Altidore scored both goals for the Americans, the first at the 25th minute of the match, and the second at the 81st minute, when he picked up the deflection of a kick from teammate Freddy Adu.
The win gave the U.S. a first-place finish in Group D, and secured its place in the round of 16. Poland, which played to a 1-1 tie with South Korea Friday, finished in second place in Group D, leaving four-time champion Brazil in the third spot and on the brink of elimination. South Korea fell to last place and was bounced from the competition.
Also Friday, Argentina beat North Korea 1-0 to secure the top spot in Group E and a trip to the second round. The Czech Republic also advanced after beating Panama 2-1. The loss eliminated the South Americans from the soccer tournament.
