Garcia Holds on to British Open Lead

Spanish golfer Sergio Garcia has carded a 71 in the second round to hold onto the lead at the half-way point of the British Open in Carnoustie, Scotland.

The 27-year-old Garcia followed his sizzling opening round of 65 with an even-par round on Friday, but it was enough to give him a two-shot lead with a six-under total of 136. K.J. Choi of South Korea fired a 69 to end the day two strokes back at 138.

Canada's Mike Weir carded the best round of the day, a 68, to finish another shot behind at 139. He is tied for third place with Miguel Angel Jimenez of Spain.

Meanwhile, world No. 1 Tiger Woods of the United States started the day with a double-bogey and fell seven shots off the lead after a three-over-par round of 74.

Woods is trying to become the first player in more than a half-century to win a third straight British Open title.
