Kosovo's international administrator has warned major powers of the dangers of further delaying a decision on the final status of the Serbian breakaway province.
Special United Nations envoy Joachim Ruecker told reporters in Pristina Wednesday that he has delivered his warning to European Union officials in Brussels.
A meeting is being held Wednesday in Vienna of the so-called Contact Group on Kosovo. Representatives of six member-nations, the United States, Britain, Germany, France, Italy and Russia, were meeting to set up a new round of Pristina-Belgrade negotiations.
Last week the United States and European Union moved the Kosovo issue from the United Nations Security Council to the Contact Group, after Russia threatened to veto any Kosovo resolution that is not supported by both Belgrade and Pristina.
In Belgrade Tuesday, Serbian lawmakers adopted a resolution on Kosovo stating that only the U.N. Security Council can decide on the status of the province. Parliament also said it will reject any deal on Kosovo's independence that does not come from the U.N. Security Council.
In Pristina Tuesday, Kosovar leaders said they will not declare independence unilaterally, but only in agreement with the United States and European Union.
