A U.N. aid agency says it will begin emergency aid to North Korea to help the country recover from some of the worst flooding in years.
The World Food Program issued a statement Tuesday saying the government in Pyongyang will allow it to distribute food to 215,000 people over the next three months.
International assistance in North Korea is strictly monitored. The World Food Program is already at the center of international efforts to help fight hunger in North Korea, which is unable to provide for its own people without outside aid.
The country has reported 300 people are dead or missing after torrential rains earlier this month. Flooding in southern North Korea made 300,000 people homeless and destroyed 11 percent of the grain harvest.
Several nations and private humanitarian organizations have pledged support.
