Henin Defeats Venus Williams to Reach Finals of US Open

World No. 1 women's tennis player Justine Henin of Belgium and former champion Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia have advanced to the finals of the U.S. Open tennis tournament in New York.

Kuznetsova beat compatriot Anna Chakvetadze in three sets, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1. Neither player seemed on her game with Kuznetsova committing 35 unforced errors and Chakvetadze 46, including 20 in the final set.

Later, Henin scored a straight-sets win over two-time former champion Venus Williams of the United States, 7-6, 6-4. All time, Henin leads Kuznetsova, 14-2. With a win Saturday, the Belgian would capture her second major tournament title this year.

The men's semifinals are Saturday with world number one Roger Federer of Switzerland playing Russia's Nikolay Davydenko and David Ferrer of Spain facing Novak Djokovic of Serbia.
