IAAF Announces 2008 Golden League Schedule

update

Track and field's world governing body has released the schedule for the 2008 Golden League of meets with male athletes competing in six events and women in only four as they try to win $1 million in gold.

The International Association of Athletics Federations said the men will compete in the 100m, the 400m, the 1,500m, the 400m hurdles, the long jump and the javelin. Women will compete in the 200m, the 800m, the 100m hurdles and the high jump for their share.

Athletes who win their event in all six of the Golden League meets will be eligible for the jackpot. If no one is able to win all six events, those with five wins will share a prize of $500,000.

Last year, world champion and world record holder Yelena Isinbayeva of Russia and American 400m runner Sanya Richards shared the jackpot.

The 2008 Golden League competition begins June first in Berlin and ends September fifth in Brussels. In between, athletes will compete in Oslo, Rome, Paris and Zurich.
